ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and an experienced driver-guide, who will escort you to your accommodation in Arusha. This first day is designed for relaxation and acclimation, preparing you for the thrilling adventure ahead. If the weather is favorable, you'll be greeted by stunning views of Mount Meru and the majestic, often cloud-shrouded Mount Kilimanjaro.

While settling in, consider enhancing your stay with optional activities available in Arusha. Explore the serene Lake Duluti by canoe, discover local culture and sites on a city tour, unwind with a yoga class, delve into the aromatic world of a coffee tour, embark on scenic walking tours, or experience the landscape on horseback. Please note that an additional charge applies for these activities

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your personal driver-guide will collect you from your lodge in Arusha and you'll embark on the journey to Tarangire National Park. As you travel across the scenic Maasai plains, dotted with acacia trees, you’ll witness Maasai tribespeople walking along the roadside, riding bicycles, driving donkeys, and herding cattle—a vibrant glimpse into their daily lives.

Known as the "elephant playground," Tarangire is famous for its large herds of elephants. From the comfort of your open-roof safari vehicle, prepare to be amazed by the diverse wildlife this park offers, including lions, zebras, warthogs, wildebeests, and buffaloes. Keep an eye on the trees where you might spot lions on the hunt or leopards lounging in the branches above.

During the dry season, the park becomes a bustling hub of activity as animals and birds gather around the Tarangire River, the park’s permanent water source, making it an excellent time for wildlife viewing.

Day 3&4: Serengeti National Park

The next two days are fully devoted to exploring the vast expanse of Serengeti National Park, a name derived from the Maasai word "Siringet," meaning "the endless plain." These days in the Serengeti promise unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities, especially in the Central Serengeti, which is a hotbed for animal activity throughout the year.

In this heart of the Serengeti, you'll encounter a wide array of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, hippos, reedbucks, buffaloes, and baboons. These species thrive here year-round, well after the dramatic migration of blue wildebeest and zebras has passed through. The Serengeti is particularly famous for its high concentration of lions and leopards, making it a premier destination for big cat enthusiasts

Keep an eye out for the iconic Serengeti “Kopjes” – these striking granite boulders stand out against the grassy plains and serve as essential shelters for diverse flora and fauna. Each day, after immersing yourself in game drives and experiencing the wild beauty of the Serengeti, you will return to your camp to relax, dine, and rest under the stars, gearing up for another day of adventure in one of Africa’s most spectacular settings.

Although most of the campsites in the area are similar, it is one of few that are on level ground and well sheltered from winds, meaning less cold nights.

Day 5: Ndutu Southern Serengeti Plains

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a full-day game drive in the Ndutu area. This region is known for its diverse ecosystems, including swamps, woodlands, and savannahs. With some luck, you may witness vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope stretching across the horizon. The hauntingly beautiful sound of wildebeest mooing adds to the day's unique experience.

February is a particularly special time in Ndutu, as many wildebeest give birth in a synchronized birthing event. The sparse grass offers little cover, making the newborns vulnerable to predators such as cheetahs, lions, hyenas, and leopards. Remarkably, wildebeest calves are able to run within minutes of birth, and by three days old, they are usually strong enough to keep up with the herd, adding a dramatic element to your safari adventure.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, set off towards the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world. Formed millions of years ago, the crater is home to over 25,000 animals, making it a high-density game viewing location.

As you explore the crater floor, you'll have the opportunity to see almost every species of East African savannah animal. The vast grasslands and acacia forests provide the perfect backdrop for spotting the "Big Five" (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard). Other residents include wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. Keep an eye out for the endangered black rhino, a rare sight that may grace your visit if you’re fortunate.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park

At 8:30 AM, depart from your accommodation and head to Lake Manyara National Park, bringing along a picnic lunch for a full day of exploration. As you enter the park, you're welcomed by lush forests of Acacia and Mahogany trees, setting the scene for the day's adventure.

Spend the day immersed in a game drive that continues into the evening, breaking only for your picnic lunch. Keep an eye out for buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, baboons, and blue monkeys. One of Lake Manyara's highlights is its tree-climbing lions, although spotting them requires a bit of luck. In the right season, the lake's shoreline may turn pink with millions of flamingos—a breathtaking sight.

The day concludes with a drive back to Arusha, marking the end of your enriching 7-day safari experience with Mazingira Safari.
